"Williams works magic." Newsweek Magazine
"Williams' songs teach as well as entertain." Chicago Tribune
"Nashville resident, outstanding poet and gifted singer/songwriter Williams is genius. Each [of his] song is pristine and magical as it brings you in . . . ." Nashville Music Guide
"When first listening to David Williams, one is taken back to the classic jazz musicians and their characteristics of being strong vocalists. Featured on the track is a mix of sultry jazz and a reflecting lyrical rant. With the strumming of the guitar and the light variety of other instruments in the background, Williams pays homage to the traditional gypsy jazz while making it into something completely his own." The Music Court
“You will be knocked out by Williams. . . reminiscent of Ry Cooder and Leon Redbone--terrific.”
The Chicago Sun Times
“I’ve seen a lot of singer-songwriters pass through over the years; most of them quickly forgotten. But every once in awhile, someone rises up with a real talent for lyrics, and such a talent is David Williams.”

“David Williams' cartoons and Graphic Illustrartions are fresh and innventive, unlike so many others I've seen that all look alike: David's have an imediate and fun spirit that gets to you right off the bat!"
Morgan James, NY
"I noticed that people were not falling asleep while holding their coffee cups, which is usually what happens at our meetings. No. People were looking up, participating, waiting to see what David would draw next, and hoping their comment might be worthy of a cartoon!"
Lisa Driver, MI
"I think this is the first time where everyone in the meeting actually had something to say. I've never seen that happen before. It's like, having the cartoons just made all of us want to jump into mix. In other words, people were thinking, while having fun. And contributing. How rare is that?"

David Williams is a true renaissance man: English professor, musician, illustrator [graphic recorder], scholar, advocate for the environment and warm-hearted individual. Most recently David came to the STEM School and Academy, and his preparation, knowledge and ability to relate to students define what it means to be a great teacher. [In addition], while touring China with a group of educators, David was able to instantly relate to the culture and music of each province visited. He understands life from multiple perspectives and has had great success in multiple disciplines. Please feel free to contact me so that I may brag about this great man. I have had the pleasure of knowing David Williams for a decade. David is as close to being a unique person and intellect intellect as any I have known. Inherent to his uniqueness is a range of expressive talents across an extraordinarily diverse assortment of media palettes. David is an Emmy-winning song writer and a gifted, engaging musician. David writes and publishes ]iction and scholarly non-]iction. His range of interests is extraordinary and he never fails to be insightful. I do not make this comment casually. I often bemoan what I perceive to be a dearth of insight in a sea of academic content. David is a talented political cartoonist of sharp wit and pen. His work has graced the Chronicle of Higher Education and I commissioned and created a repository of his work at the EDUCAUSE Center for Applied Research (ECAR). I suspect that David could become a painter of note. His posted work during visit to Russia simply stopped me in my tracks. I so appreciated the Chagall-like quality of his work that I immediately purchased work of his that I am very happy to have in my collection. If I was wealthy, I would be David's patron. I gave an important keynote speech to an audience of more than 5,000 university executives. I use few words in my presentation slides. For this talk, I commissioned David to represent my ideas visually in his unique fashion. He succeeded beyond my hopes and this talk was a big success. David is a true and enthusiastic and boundary-spanning scholar. He learns, performs, creates, and teaches because of a fire that burns inside him.

I am writing to recommend my colleague and friend, David Williams. I have known David for many years now, and he is someone of prodigious creative output of high quality, as a fiction writer, researcher, non-fiction writer, songwriter, cartoonist, and musician. In terms of his research, David is one of the few people who sees the "large picture." Passionate about science as well as literature, he has devoted himself toward (what E.O. Wilson calls) "consilience" between the humanities and sciences, examining literature from the standpoint of neuroscience, evolutionary psychology, and biology. His new book, The Trickster Brain, for example, looks at mythology from these perspectives, challenging old paradigms that the humanities have been utilizing for decades (based upon arm chair speculation) and reinvigorating texts with new analysis based on scientific research. This is a fresh and much needed approach, but David is always looking at things as if the box did not exist.
